Choosing the Song for the Music Video

Before starting to make our music video my partner and I Katie had to decide upon the song that we will create a video for, it was vastly important to pick this well, because if the track we used was too mainstream, we believed that perhaps the audience would think we were attempting to duplicate something that has previously been done. Frequently watching the music channels and listening to the radio to see what was currently in the charts and what popular genres and artists were about, to help make the decision of the song to select. I made lists of various songs and styles of songs which I thought would be good for our music video and as I am working with Katie on the music video, she also made a separate list, after both getting together and talking about what was on our lists, we originally decided to create a remix between two songs, one being ‘Foals – Hummer’, and the other ‘The Gossip – Heavy Cross’. ‘Hummer’ is the Foals second single which was released in April 2007 and featured as their bonus track on their album ‘Antidotes’. As the Foals music genre is relatively alternative often being said that they have an upbeat, poppy, math rock / past punk sound we thought this would work well with The Gossip- Heavy Cross, as they are a punk trio, who include indie rock into their music. "Our mission is to make you dance, and if you're not gonna dance, just stay at home and listen to the oldies station." As both these bands emphasize on their dance-punk direction we thought they would combine well. However, once we had remixed the songs together, we found it was all too instrumental, and felt how we had planned the video to be, would not give such an impact as we had hoped. So after this we looked at the rest of our previous lists and decided upon the band Paramore, who started up in Franklin, America in 2004 with their not so well known song ‘Let The Flames Begin’. As we both incredibly liked the band Paramore, as there pop/ punk style is relatively individual. With choosing this song we felt that we could totally create a visual show that works in harmony with the song.
