Brief

In A Level Media Studies, we had to compleate a piece of Coursework for each year. For Media Studies AS Level we were set a brief to complete two exercises:

First the Preliminary exercise - A continuity task, involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialouge. Demonstrating a match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.
Secondly the Main task - The titles and opening of a new fiction thriller film, to last from a minimum of two minutes to a maximum of four minuets. Where all video and audio material must be original, and produced by us as the candidates, with the exception of copyright-free sources.

In A2 Level Media Studies for our coursework we have been given a choice out of two briefs as to which one to do.

One being :
A promotion package for the release of an album, to include music promo video, together with two of the following three options:
- A website homepage for the band
- A cover for its release as part of a digipak (CD/DVD package)
- A magazine advertisment for the digipak (CD/DVD package)


The second brief being:
An extract from a new documentary TV programme, lasting approximately five minutes, together with two of the following three options:
- A radio trailer for the documentary
- A double - page spread for a listings magazine focused on the documentary
- A newspaper advertisement for the documentary


After watching various music videos and documentary’s as well as finding out some information about them both, I decided to produce the music video as I felt I could create a much stronger piece with the video, seeing that I am into many different genres and styles of music, and take a great interest within the topic. I also believe that studying Art at A Level and having a creative personality could help me generate the strongest piece of work I can possibly produce.
